A quality rug is an investment in your home’s comfort and style. To ensure your KnotCraft rug remains beautiful for years to come, we recommend following these care and maintenance guidelines.

GENERAL CARE TIPS

  • Vacuuming: Regular vacuuming is essential. We recommend vacuuming at least once a week to remove surface dirt before it settles into the pile. Use a suction-only setting; avoid using heavy-duty "beater bars" or rotating brushes on delicate or high-pile rugs, as this can cause fraying.

  • Rotation: To ensure even wear and prevent uneven fading from sunlight, rotate your rug 180° every six months.

  • Rug Pads: We highly recommend using a quality non-slip rug pad. This prevents the rug from sliding, reduces wear on the backing, and provides extra cushioning.

  • Sunlight Exposure: Long-term exposure to direct sunlight can cause colors to fade. Use curtains or blinds to protect your rug during peak sun hours.

CLEANING GUIDELINES

  • Spills and Stains: Act quickly! Blot (do not rub) the spill immediately with a clean, dry white cloth or paper towel. Rubbing can push the stain deeper into the fibers and damage the pile.

  • Mild Detergent: For stubborn spots, use a small amount of lukewarm water mixed with a drop of wool-safe detergent. Always test a small, inconspicuous area first to check for colorfastness.

  • Professional Cleaning: For deep cleaning or difficult stains (like wine or oil), we recommend consulting a professional rug cleaner. Do not steam clean or dry clean handmade rugs unless specified.

MATERIAL SPECIFIC CARE

  • Wool Rugs: Wool is naturally soil-resistant but may "shed" when new. This is normal and will subside after several weeks of regular vacuuming.

  • Synthetic Rugs (Polypropylene/Polyester): These are durable and easy to clean. Most spills can be removed with water and mild soap.

  • Jute & Natural Fibers: These rugs are sensitive to moisture. Avoid using water to clean them; instead, use a dry extraction powder if necessary.

  • Shag & High Pile: These require more frequent vacuuming with a handheld attachment to prevent the pile from flattening.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Shedding: As mentioned, new rugs (especially wool) may shed loose fibers. This is a natural process and not a defect.

  • Sprouting: If a long thread (tuft) pulls up above the rug surface, do not pull it. Simply use a pair of sharp scissors to trim it level with the rest of the pile.

  • Odors: Some rugs may have a "new rug" scent when first unpacked. This is harmless and will dissipate within a few days in a well-ventilated room.
